The Town of Leesburg operates under the Council-Manager form of government. The Town Council is the legislative body of the town and is empowered by the charter to make town policy. The Council is composed of a mayor and six councilmembers elected at large on a non-partisan basis.
Elections are held on the first Tuesday in May in each even numbered year. Six of the seven councilmembers are elected for four-year overlapping terms. The mayor is elected for a two-year term. Citizens may register to vote at the Loudoun County Voter Registration Office, 26-C Fairfax Street, S.E., Leesburg. Telephone (703) 777-0380.
The council meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers on the second floor of the Municipal Government Center, 25 West Market St. The Council also meets in a work session at 7:30 p.m. on Mondays preceding regular Tuesday meetings.
The public is welcome to attend the meetings. Council meetings can be seen live on Leesburg Government Access Cable Channel 21. Meetings are replayed on Wednesdays at noon.
