| Among the members of the first class - and the positions they held at the time - were: Peter Dunning, President and Founder of the Bluemont Concert Series; Tim Dimos, attorney and member of the Middleburg Town Council; journalist Judith A. Randal; David M. Daugherty Jr., President of the Loudoun County Transportation Association; Jerry Schiro, Purcellville Town Manager; Dale Hammes, Deputy General Manager of the Loudoun County Sanitation Authority; and Gladys Pinckney Burke, owner of ADJ Enterprises. After the class completed its two-day opening retreat, it participated in a site visit that took the members on a mini-tour of business and industry in eastern Loudoun County. The group went on a mobile lounge tour of Dulles Airport and learned about the airport’s expansion plans and marketing efforts from Keith Merlin, General Manager of the airport, and Leo Schefer, President of the Washington Airport Task Force. The class also toured the new Lansdowne Conference Center and the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg. Over the course of the year, the Class of 1992 coordinated a series of all-day forums and site visits, and worked in groups to complete community change projects. Among the change projects were the creation of a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Loudoun County and the establishment of a Government Day program for local high school students. Now in its 17th year, Leadership Loudoun has 363 graduates, many of whom participate in ongoing learning and networking opportunities. The Class of 2008 recently held its opening retreat with 26 participants. This is one of a series of weekly releases from the Loudoun County Office of Public Information during 2007, highlighting landmark events in the Loudoun County government over its 250-year history.
